Financial Statements
In May of 2009, Stop CMV and The CMV Action Network became a corporation in the State of California to begin the process of filing for official non-profit status. Stop CMV filed its non-profit application with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in October of 2009 and received its 501(c)(3) determination only a month later, in November of 2009.
According to the IRS, a non-profit organization "having gross receipts in each tax year that normally are not more than $25,000" is not required to file tax forms (Form 990 or 990-EZ), but may be required to file an annual electronic notice - e-Postcard (Form 990-N) which requires "confirmation that the organization's annual gross receipts are normally $25,000 or less". Some smaller non-profit organizations do not typically compile financial statements and are not required to disclose them to the IRS or the general public.
